Petals For Armor
Hayley Williams
As its name suggests, the debut solo album
from the Paramore frontwoman is based on
the idea of vulnerability as a strength, rather
than a weakness. Petals For Armor’s sound
is certainly a good distance from the pop-
punk we have so far associated her with –
and the reward for her experimentation and
immersion in feeling for this project has been
many rave reviews.
FIVE FACTS:
- Williams has said the album’s title was
inspired by her belief that “the way for me
to protect myself best is to be vulnerable”. - Petals For Armor was recorded in the wake
of intense personal struggle following the
release of the fifth Paramore album, After
Laughter, in 2017. - The album was preceded by two extended
plays (EPs), Petals For Armor I and Petals
For Armor II. - Williams has said the album’s creation
enabled her to “get my hands a little
dirtier than usual when it came
to instrumentation.” - Williams’ Paramore bandmate Taylor
York is credited alongside her as a producer
on the project.
