Petals For Armor

Hayley Williams

As its name suggests, the debut solo album
from the Paramore frontwoman is based on
the idea of vulnerability as a strength, rather
than a weakness. Petals For Armor’s sound
is certainly a good distance from the pop-
punk we have so far associated her with –
and the reward for her experimentation and
immersion in feeling for this project has been
many rave reviews.

FIVE FACTS:

  1. Williams has said the album’s title was
inspired by her belief that “the way for me
to protect myself best is to be vulnerable”.

  2. Petals For Armor was recorded in the wake
of intense personal struggle following the
release of the fifth Paramore album, After
    Laughter, in 2017.

  3. The album was preceded by two extended
plays (EPs), Petals For Armor I and Petals
    For Armor II.

  4. Williams has said the album’s creation
enabled her to “get my hands a little
dirtier than usual when it came
    to instrumentation.”

  5. Williams’ Paramore bandmate Taylor
York is credited alongside her as a producer
    on the project.
