the camera with APS-C
lenses you said that it
only results in 10.2MP
images. Why is this? Also,
if you did use APS-C
lenses as they are
specifi cally for APS-C
sensors, does this mean
they limit the amount
of light to the size of
an APS-C sensor and,
therefore, defeat the object
of using an EF-S lens ona
full-frame camera?
Ian Couch

As you know, EF-S
lenses only properly
cover the area of an
APS-C sensor. This is a
1.6x crop of full frame,
which on the EOS RP
equates to 10.2 million
pixels in the centre of the
sensor. So if you happen
to own the Canon EF-S
10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS
STM, for example, you’ll
get a 16mm-equivalent
wideangle view at
10.2MP. This may sound
like a pointless thing to
do, but could be handy
if you don’t have a
full-frame lens that
wide – Andy Westlake,

Spotting fake Leicas
The quality of the fi nish is
one way to identify fake
Leicas (Just like a Leica, 23
March), but a much
simpler way is to remove
the lens and look at the
rangefi nder cam. On a
genuine Leica it will be
round and rotates, but the
fake will have an oval cam.
Second, the front element
of the genuine Elmar will
be set back in the mount,
but the fake will be right

upat thefront.Finally

AP demographic
This weekend I went to a
leisure centre to use the
gym, and a model railway
fair was taking place.
It was clear that the
demographic for
that hobby is male-
dominated. AP seems to
bevery good at ensuring
itsarticle contributors
represent a broad
demographic, but Inbox
tends to be dominated by
male contributors. Is there
a clear male-heavy
demographic in terms of
readership of AP? Do
subscription stats shed
any light on this area?
Phil Ensor

One of the most
welcome changes in the
world of photography is
the infl ux of women into
what used to be a very
male-dominated hobby.
Photo magazines, like
most ‘special interest’
titles, are still read by
more men than women,
but AP has worked hard
in recent years to refl ect
a more even gender
balance, both in our
content and in our
editorial team. But now
that you mention it,
it’s an interesting
observation that while
our female readers are
disproportionately more
likely to sign up for our
live events they rarely
seem to write to Inbox
