Spotlight on readers’ excellent images and how they captured them

Lilly
2 It might come as
a surprise to learn
that this arresting
and contemplative
portrait was shot at
a busy party. It is one
of just four frames
that Jo had time to
shoot and has gone
on to win a number of
camera club awards.
Nikon D7200,
18-300mm, 1/60sec
at f/5, ISO 1250

Billie
1 Billie is one of
Jo’s favourite
models, who follows
instructions very
well. Jo used natural
light and went in
close to capture the
girl’s freckles and
intense expression.
Nikon D7200,
18-300mm, 1/80sec
at f/4.5, ISO 800

Ringmaster
3 Inspired by The
Greatest Showman,
this shot was made
in Jo’s home studio.
She brought out the
texture of the hat
by using layers,
and used contrast
and tone mapping
to enhance her
daughter’s freckles
and sharpen her eyes.
Nikon D7200,
18-300mm, 1/60sec
at f/3.5, ISO 11,

JoKelly Cambridgeshire
Like so many before her,
o developed an interest in
photography after she became
a parent in 2011. In 2015,
she bought a Nikon D7200,
andhasnt looked back since. She now has
a small studio at home which she uses
whenever she has a moment. A member
of March Camera Club, she regularly enters
its competitions, and has recently been
placed three times. A trained nurse, she
particularly enjoys photographing children

  • something that appears to come very
naturally to her. ‘Each photo shoot is an
adventure,’ she says. ‘You hope for it to
turn out the way you plan, but even if it
    doesn’t, it’s always fun.’
