Theclubbeganitslifein 1972asStreet

CameraClub,laterbecomingMidSomerset

CameraClub.It is a well-establishedclubwith

anactiveandforward-thinking membership,

opentotryingnewideas.

Whatdoesyourcluboffertonewmembers?

Wefocusonprovidinga friendlyandsupportive

environmentto learnaboutphotographyand

developskillsat everylevel.Ourmembers

areverygenerouswiththeirknowledgeand

expertisewhichcovera widerangeof genres

andphotographicstyles,andwehave recently

launched a mentoring scheme.

Wemeetat a pubandmembersinvariably

arriveearlytohavea drinkandchat

beforehand...we’rea sociablebunch!There

isn’treallya typicaleveningthoughandwe

havea veryvariedandactiveprogrammewith

clubcompetitions,battleswithotherclubs,

inspiringspeakers,andpracticaleveningsona

rangeof subjects.Wealsohavesessionson

cameratheory/technique,processingmethods

andmorecreativeaspectsof photography.

Throughouteachseasonwetrytocover

differentgenresandstylesof photography

tohelpandinspireourmembers.Wewant

everyonetodeveloptheirskills,learnnew

things,andenjoythemselves.

WehaveanactiveFacebookpagewhich

membersusetoshareinformationand

resources;gethelp,forexample,withprinting

problemsorimageprocessing;askfor

techniqueadvice;sharenewsandinformation

aboutevents,locationsandexhibitions,askfor

critiqueonindividualimages;arrangemeet-ups

withothermembersorjustchatabout

photographyandgettoknoweachother.

regularbasis,gainingawardsandrecognition

in nationalandinternationalsalons.

Howmanymembersdoyouhave?

Wehave 50 memberswitha goodproportion

of women.In fact,ourwomenphotographers

areoftenthemostsuccessfulbothin cluband

externalcompetitions,andtheyalsohave

moredistinctions. Our youngest member is

14 yearsold.

Doyouhaveanyresidentialtripsor

outingsplanned?

Notat themoment,butmembersoftenget

togetherinformallyoutsideof weeklymeetings

orattendworkshopsandcoursestogether.

Wearrangeoutingsin differentlocationsat

varioustimesduringtheyear,especiallyduring

thesummermonthswhen we don’t have

formalmeetings.

Whataretheclub’sgoalsforthefuture?

Wewanttocontinuetoinspireandsupportall

ourmembers,whateverleveltheyareat.Our

membersare‘TheClub’andweaimtodevelop

skills;openmindstonewideas,genresand

techniques;andprovideanopen,supportive

andsociableenvironmentforeveryoneto

enjoythemselves,theirphotography, and

simply ‘be the best they can be!’
