systemwasforthesizeand
weightbenefits.Overtheyears
I’velearnttheweightof mybag
hasa bigroletoplay,especially
whenI usuallyendupcarrying
it forhoursat a timewithout
rest.I chosetheGH3above
othermodelsonthebasisof
howit feltin myhand.Some
camerasyoujustpickupand
loveandtheLumixGH3was
oneof them.I instantlyknewit
wouldlightenmyloadandsave
myachingbackat thesame
time.Somemightarguethatit’s
a fairlybigMicroFourThirds

camera,butpersonallyI think

it offerstheperfectblend

betweenbeinglightweightand

manageable.Pairedupwithfast

primesit deliversbeautiful

resultsandthedynamicrange

isn’tbadeither.I havebeen

carryingit aroundforsixyears

nowandI’vebeenimpressed

byitsrobustness.Nocold,heat,

rainorsnowhasyetstoppedme

fromusingit. It hastakenthe

occasionaltumblealongtheway

(onceit wasevensubmerged

completelyin water),butmy

exampleis stillgoingstrong.I do

occasionallyogleothercameras,

butsofarnoneof themhave

convincedmeenoughto

abandonmytrustycompanion.’

‘I boughtmyGH3in 2014justasI was
abouttoembarkona two-weekroad
tripacrosstheWestCoastof theUSA.
Atthetime,mirrorlesscameraswere
stillrelativelynewandtheMicroFour
Thirdssystemofferedthebestsolution
in termsof lensesandaccessories.My
maincamerabackthenwasa Canon
EOS6DbutI feltthiswastoobulkyand
heavy,especiallyafterfactoringin the
weightandsizeof lenses.A Panasonic
cashbackofferbroughtthepriceof a
newGH3downto£400– considering
thecamerawasonlya coupleof years
oldin 2014,it wasa crackingbargain.I
usedit witha 7-14mmultrawideangle
lensand25mmf/1.4prime.Fora
generalwalk-aroundlensI useda
12-35mmf/2.8.I lovedhowsmalland
lightit was,whilestillhavingplentyof
directaccesscontrolsacrossthebody,
plusa viewfinderandarticulating
screen.I partedwayswiththeGH3last
yearasI’dmovedontotheG9andfelt
theGH3wouldbebetterin thehands
of somebodywhocouldgetmoreuse
fromit. It helditsvalueexceptionally
well,andperhapsthankstothe
cashbackoffer,I wasabletosellit for
notmuchlessthanI paidforit, almost
fouryearslater.’
