Stitcher’s guide
This design is worked
on 28-count evenweave
over two threads of
the fabric in 38 shades
of cotton. Cross stitch
and half cross stitch are
worked in two strands
of cotton. Backstitch
and French knots add
the detail to the design,
both in one strand. There
are also a few fractional
stitches, so we think this
is a design best suited
to intermediate and
experienced stitchers.
Made into a beautiful hanging, this
countryside sampler features all of your
favourite farmyard friends, plus a few
baby animals for added cute factor!

1
Find the centre of your
fabric by folding it in half
both horizontally and vertically.
Follow the arrows on the chart
to find its centre and start
stitching here, in the middle of
the fabric, working outwards.
2
Work the cross stitch and
half cross stitch over two
threads of the fabric using two
strands of cotton. Whenever
you come across a tiny symbol
on the chart, work a fractional
stitch in its place.
3
When you have completed
all the cross stitch, add the
backstitch using one strand of
cotton. Then, work the French
knots, again using one strand.
4
When you have completed
all the backstitch, then
carefully check over your
finished work and prepare it for
making into a hanging.

Bright idea
There is a sweet little bunch
of primroses at the top of
this farmyard design – these
delightful pale yellow flowers
are a sure sign of spring, when
they pop up merrily all along
the hedgerows. You could
stitch them as a nice quick
card or a little scented hanging
for somebody who celebrates
a spring birthday.
