Spring flowers key
1
Trim your stitching to approx. 5cm
(2in) larger than your inner hoop,
then cut a piece of felt slightly smaller
than the inner hoop.
2
Insert your fabric into the hoop,
making sure the design is central,
with the screw at the top. Tighten the
screw, keeping the stitching taut.
3
Work a running stitch around the
edge of the fabric at the back.
Pull gently to gather the edge, then
secure your thread.
4
Tack the piece of felt to the reverse
of the stitching to create a neat
finish, then tie on your ribbon of
choice for hanging.
How to make up the hoop
“I’m going to stitch this
pretty windowsill scene
for a friend of mine to add
instant colour to her new
home. She will love it.”

Dainty detail
The backstitch really helps those
delicate trumpet frills to take shape,
bringing the daffodils to life. I’ve used
a shade of thread called Antique
Gold, which is a lovely warm colour to
complement the sunny yellow petals.
China blue
Collecting pottery is another hobby
of mine, and I’ve used one of my own
jugs as inspiration for this piece. It
has a delicate floral pattern in blue
and white, which contrasts perfectly
with the pink and yellow flowers.
