2 / MEASURE FILL PORT HOLE
You’ll need to create a hole large enough for the inner threaded section of
the fill port to pass through, but small enough so that the outer locking rings
can still sit above and below. Locate a suitable spot above your reservoir,
with no case fittings beneath it.

3 / USE DRILL
Step drill bits are ideal for cutting holes in PC cases, as they’re often
cheaper and more flexible than good holesaws. Measure the width
of the fill port’s inner thread, and use a drill bit a little larger than this
measurement. Remove any hardware beneath the cutting area first,
and clean away any metal shards afterwards.
O
ften overlooked when it comes to water-cooling systems,
fill ports and drain ports can make maintaining your loop a
lot easier. Fill ports provide an exterior access point into
your water-cooling system, allowing you to fill it without popping the
lids off reservoirs or handling coolant inside your PC. Your case might
even come pre-equipped with a fill port hole.
Drain ports can be even more useful, allowing coolant to flow out
of your loop using a ball valve in a controlled manner, avoiding mess
and eliminating the need to dismantle your loop. By adding clear
coolant and flushing old coolant out of the drain port, you can flush
your loop to add a different coloured coolant easily too. In this guide,

TOOLS YOU’LL NEED
1 / CHECK FOR FILL PORT HOLE
Some cases’ roof sections and radiator mounts already include pre-
cut holes for fill ports, allowing you to just screw one in straight away.
They can sometimes be hidden under mesh panels and filters, so be
sure to check first.
