Welcome
A rainy, windy winter has left us in dire
need of some bright spring colours,
and this month we’re showing off those
new season shades as we explore the
possibilities of rib stitches.
We’ve got lacy ribs, diagonal ribs, cabled
ribs, horizontal ribs, entrelac ribs, ribs in
a kite shawl and much more. We have ribs
both fitted and flowing, cosy and cool – in
fact, any way you want to wear them. Lots
of our designs are perfect for layering,
because you can never quite trust the
British weather at this time of year.
This month we also have some
fascinating insights into sustainable
fashion. You can try out US brand Cascade’s
new eco yarn Reverb, which is made from
70% recycled plastic bottles, in Jo Allport’s
on-trend Emmie jumper on page 56.
And we meet Valentina Karellas, a young
London-based designer who machine-knits
her creations to order and never wastes
a scrap of yarn. She shares her organic,
sustainable lifestyle and slow fashion ethos,
and offers tips for Knitting readers who
want to make more and waste less.
Plus we’ve got brilliant designs by Martin
Storey, Bronagh Miskelly, Brian Smith,
Anniken Allis, Pat Menchini and many more
- along with news, views and a roundup of
the exciting new yarns you can expect to find
in your local yarn store this season.
