ABBREVIATIONS
dbl st(s) = double stitches (see German
Short Rows)
sl wyif and wrap st = with yarn in front
slip the first st pwise then wrap st: take
the working yarn over the RH needle
and pull up on the st until the st from
the last row pulls across the RH needle
(see German Short Rows)
For more abbreviations see page 91
GERMAN SHORT ROWS
Shoulders are shaped using German
Short Rows but other short row methods
can be used if preferred. You can find
a tutorial for German Short Rows on
Anniken’s YouTube channel.
To work German Short Rows, work to
turning point, turn ready to work next row.
With yarn in front slip first st pwise, then
wrap st: take working yarn over RH needle
and pull up on the st until the st from the
last row pulls across RH needle (it will look
like a strange double st), then work as
directed. As “double stitches” appear, knit
both strands together as one stitch.
ONE-ROW BUTTONHOLE
Work to point where buttonhole is needed.

  1. Sl1 st pwise to RH needle, take yarn to
    front between needles.

  2. Sl next st pwise and pass previous
    slipped st over; rep from
    until 3 sts
have been cast off (or more for a larger
    buttonhole). Slip the stitch remaining

on RH needle to the left and turn work.
Working yarn is now at beg of LH needle.

  1. With yarn at back, cable cast on same
number of sts as those cast off plus one st
(ie if casting off 3 sts, then cast on 4 sts).
Before placing last st on LH needle bring
yarn to front between needles, place the
st on LH needle and turn work.

  2. Slip first st on LH needle kwise and pass
last cast-on st over it. Buttonhole is now
complete and total stitch count has not
    been altered.

PATTERN NOTES
Chart A has two pattern repeats. P2 in
centre of Chart are centre 2 sts of Back.
On RS rows, work red repeat in first half
and blue rep in second half. This is reversed
on WS rows. See written instructions for
Charts if clarification is needed.
If working size 2, note that there are extra
sts worked outside the pattern repeat.
Separate instructions are listed in the
written instructions of the main pattern
so always refer to first 2 rows of written
pattern set-up if working this size, before
working from Charts.

TIPS
Keep track of number of pattern repeats/
rows worked to start of armhole shaping
and shoulder shaping and be sure to
match number of rows worked on Fronts
and Back.
