TIPS
Colourwork tension
If your tension becomes tighter when you
are stranding yarn not in use across the
back of your work, try switching up to a
larger needle for the colourwork sections.
How to work evenly spaced increases
or decreases
To work out how to decrease or increase
evenly, count the total number of stitches
on the needles (eg 80 sts) and divide by
the number of decreases or increases to
be made (eg 3) = 26.6.
In this example, when decreasing,
knit together approximately alternately
every 25th and 26th stitch and 26th and
27th stitch.
When increasing, make 1 yarn over
alternately after every 26th and 27th
stitch, and on the next round knit the yarn
overs tbl to avoid holes.
S WE ATER
Worked in the round on a circular needle
from the top down.
The sleeves are worked in the round on
double-pointed needles.
Yo ke
Using shorter 5mm circular needle and A
cast on 80[84:88:92:96:100] sts.
Join to work in the round, taking care not
to twist stitches, and pm for beg of rnd at
mid-back.
Rnd 1: (K2, p2) around.
Rnd 1 forms rib. Rep rnd 1 until piece
meas 4cm (1½in).
Next rnd (inc): Knit, dec 3[4:5:4:5:4] sts
evenly around (see Tip).
77[80:83:88:91:96] sts.
Change to 5.5mm shorter circular needle.
Back elevation
Note: Elevation is to create a better fit at
the back neck and is optional.
Starting at beg of rnd at centre back,
work short rows as foll:
Short row 1 (RS): K7[8:8:9:9:10], turn,
tighten working yarn.
Short row 2 (WS): P14[16:16:18:18:20], turn,
tighten yarn.
Short row 3: K21[24:24:27:27:30], turn,
tighten yarn.
Short row 4: P28[32:32:36:36:40], turn,
tighten yarn.
Short row 5: K35[40:40:45:45:50], turn,
tighten yarn.
Short row 6: P42[48:48:54:54:60], turn,
tighten yarn.
Short row 7: K to end of rnd.
Set yoke pattern

Cont in st st in the round, working from
the correct version of Chart A1 for your
size and working patt rep
14[15:16:17:18:19] times around.
Increase as indicated in Chart by working
yarn overs, then working these sts tbl on
the next rnd to avoid a hole.
Once Chart A1 is complete you will have
224[240:256:272:288:304] sts. Piece
