With RS facing and using 3.25mm circular
needle, beg and ending at Front cast-on
edges, pick up and knit 100[110:120:130]
sts up Right Front opening edge to beg
of Front neck shaping, 72[76:78:82] sts
along row-end edge of hood to top seam,
and 72[76:78:82] sts along row-end edge
of hood to beg of Front neck shaping,
then 100[110:120:130] sts down left Front
opening edge. 344[372:396:424] sts.
Working backwards and forwards in rows,
cont as foll:
Row 1 (WS): K1, p2, k2, p2; rep from to
last st, k1.
Row 2: K3, p2, k2; rep from to last st, k1.
These 2 rows form rib.
Work 1 more row in rib, ending with RS
facing for next row.
Next row (RS): Rib 7, cast off 2 sts (to
make a buttonhole – cast on 2 sts over
these cast-off sts on next row), rib until
there are 15[17:19:21] sts on RH needle
after cast off; rep from
4 more times, cast
off 2 sts (to make 6th buttonhole – cast on
2 sts over these cast-off sts on next row),
rib to end.
Work a further 5 rows, ending with RS
facing for next row.
Cast off in rib.

4.5m DK or finer weight black yarn
Polyester stuffing
Pair of 14mm yellow safety eyes
Tapestry needle
Sewing needle and white thread (optional)
Note: Yarn amounts are based on average
requirements and are approximate.
TENSION
21 sts and 28 rows to 10cm over st st.
Note: To produce a dense fabric so the
stuffing does not show through, use
needles smaller than the smallest needle
size recommended on the yarn label.
ABBREVIATIONS
sk2p = pick up and knit 1 st along left edge
of wing scallop, pass first st over st just
picked up
sp2p = pick up and purl 1 st along left edge
of wing scallop, pass first st over st just
picked up
M1L = make 1 st, left leaning: pick up the
bar between the st you have just worked
and the next one, bringing the needle
from front to back, and knit into the back
of this st (inc 1)

BACKWARD-LOOP CAST ON
Holding the yarn over your left thumb
with the end coming from the ball
between your last three fingers and at the
outside of the thumb, insert the needle
up under the yarn next to the outside of
your thumb. Remove your thumb from the
loop, and pull the end to tighten the yarn
slightly to snug the yarn up on the needle.
Rep from
until the required number of
stitches has been cast on.
BODY
With dpn and A, cast on 42 sts. Distribute
sts evenly over 3 dpns with 14 sts on each
needle. Pm and join to work in the rnd,
taking care not to twist sts.
Rnds 1-2: Knit.
Rnd 3 (inc): (K1, M1L, k12, M1R, k1) 3 times
(48 sts).
Rnds 4-7: Knit.
Rnd 8 (inc): (K1, M1L, k14, M1R, k1) 3 times
(5 4 st s).
