Updating the methodology for identifying nationality allows more groups
of SSTs to be compared, and leads to minor changes in estimated random
and systematic errors. Shown are fits according to equation (6) in ref.^10 ,
depending on random measurement error (σrnd^2 ), systematic ship-level
error (σshp^2 ), and the scaling relationship between the number of
measurements and ships (x). Fits are performed using logarithms, and
shading indicates 2 s.d. in logarithmic space.
