12 LIVERPOOL’S EARLIEST TOP-FLIGHT TITLE WINNING SEASONS
League champions Liverpool are two away from recording 300
goals at Anfield under Jürgen Klopp, in what is only his 127th
fixture here as boss. It’s also the 50th meeting between today’s
teams in the Premier League era. Here are some other facts and
stats ahead of kick-off...
James Milner has scored
in both his Liverpool
appearances for the Reds
against the Villans although
failed to do so in his six
games for them against the
Reds. He played 126 times
for Villa across two spells,
scoring 22 times.
Sadio Mane is one goal
short of recording 50 at
Anfield for the Reds in all
competitions while Mo Salah has
scored 15 goals in his 15 home PL
appearances this season.
Villa have won only two
of their last 34 top flight
away matches, though
January signing Mbwana
Samatta has already scored
at Anfield for Genk this term.
The Reds have now become
the first team to win a top-
flight title in England in eight
different decades. Arsenal,
Everton and Manchester
United all have seven.
The Reds have scored
more league goals in their
history (325) against Villa
than they have against
any other team. Liverpool’s
biggest home win over
today’s opponents came
in October 1953 when they
won 6-1.
Liverpool clinched their
19th league title after a
wait of 11,016 days. From
the start of the 1990/
campaign the Reds have
used 239 players.
