And a sense that it would’ve been typical Liverpool, for them to
have got so close yet had it snatched away.
“Social media was awash with crying and laughing emojis. One
post doing the rounds suggested that if the virus curtailed the
season, Liverpool were not crowned champions and remained
on 18 in total, rival supporters would create a new banner:
‘Covid-19 Liverpool 18'.
“As we have discovered in recent months, the future is
impossible to predict, but one thing is for certain: Liverpool’s
2019/20 season deserved not to be lost in the past, however
much their rivals would have relished it.”
Matt Dickinson, The Times: “Liverpool have enjoyed their
great European triumphs, but there is something about domestic
dominance that brings deeper, richer sense of pride.
Perhaps you can see it in the Museum of Liverpool where you
walk up the stairs and see a big sign proclaiming ''The People’s
Republic'. Or in the shop where they sell 'Scouse passports'...
“To be kings of England after so long is a landmark triumph
and, if it cannot be marked as they would like, reassurance comes
in the unwavering belief that this success is not a one-off.”
SIR KENNY AND CO
Sir Kenny Dalglish; “The last two years since Jürgen came in, it
has been very, very positive all the way. He's been fantastic and
he epitomises everything that Liverpool stands for.
“He respects everyone at the club. It's not just a one-off as
last year they came within a point of it and won the European
Cup and a Club World Cup too, so onwards and upwards and I
think there will be plenty more days to look forward to as long as
Jürgen is there.
“It takes a fantastic dressing-room to win things. You don't win
anything with division, it takes solidarity, and Liverpool from top to
bottom have been together.”
Graeme Souness: “This is a really special team. This is a team
who nobody enjoys playing against. If you're playing against
them, you have to be prepared to go to war with them because
they give everything.
“Every time they go out and cross that white line, the manager
instills that they have to give absolutely everything for the cause,
and when you combine that effort with the qualities they have,
especially upfront, along the back, they're some team.”
Roy Evans: “I've been waiting a long time for this. It's a fantastic
performance from our football team. Jürgen has brought a new
lease of life and our fans as always have been brilliant in support
of the team.
“Jürgen and his backroom staff deserve so much credit. You
don't win the Premier League and all the things we've won
without having a good team behind you. There are a lot of people
nobody really knows, but the owners, to be fair, have done a great
job in backing Jürgen.
“It's a team-game but that team goes back to a lot of people
and they have all had their just rewards this time.”
Gerard Houllier: “I feel happy and proud. Happy because it is a
very hard-won reward for the fans and for the players, and I feel
proud because I am a Liverpudlian.
“When you wait so long then, when it comes, you are even
more happy than if it is a repeated performance.
“Jürgen has achieved a fantastic performance with the team.
He has done a great job and he won in style. He won with a
philosophy and with a team that are generous with their effort

  • they give their all, all the time. They had a plan and they were
very good at not only outplaying the opponent but also practically
    scoring in every game.”

Rafa Benitez: “Congratulations to Liverpool FC. After 30 years
the dream comes true. Very happy for all the Reds – you'll never
walk alone.”

Roy Hodgson: “I can only congratulate them on a wonderful
season, a wonderful two seasons really. No doubt Jürgen will be
looking forward to the day he can celebrate in front of all the fans.
“I think a lot of credit has to be given to the owners for
their investment and the wisdom of their choices in terms of
appointing Jürgen, backing his judgement on bringing in the
type of players that were needed to win the league. And now
Liverpool, quite rightly, celebrates the success they've waited for
for a long time.”

Brendan Rodgers: “Having felt it while I was there – the dream
of winning the Premier League – for a club of such an iconic
status around the world, I’m delighted for Jürgen. He’s done a
brilliant job.
“They had gone so close last season. I'm so happy for Jordan
Henderson, who was amazing for me during my time there. To
see the success he’s had over the last couple of years to now lift
the Premier League title is great.
“I’m pleased for the supporters too. Wherever you travel in the
world as Liverpool manager, they are there in their thousands.
There will be a great celebration for a number of days I’m sure.
Hopefully when the time is right, the players will be able to
celebrate with the supporters.”
