ACCESSORIES
M
y earliest fashion memories take
place in Sicily, in my father’s tai-
loring shop,” says Domenico Dolce.
“He taught me to pay attention to detail
and to value the art of the handmade.” Both
qualities are on display in two new versions
of Dolce & Gabbana’s iconic Sicily handbag,
which debuted as the Miss Sicily in 2009.
The Sicily 58 and the Sicily 62 (named for the
designers’ birth years) pay homage to every-
thing from local pastries to the picturesque
coastline of Taormina in all its fantastical,
folkloric glory. A cheerful, sun-drenched col-
or palette sets the scene.
It’s not the first time the brand has looked
to the island for inspiration: See past cov-
etable dresses in majolica tile and testa di
moro vase prints (and even an accompanying
range of Smeg appliances). While Dolce hails
from the area, Stefano Gabbana was born in
Milan—but says his first trip south was “Love
at first sight!” Fans of the brand will have the
same reaction to the new Sicilian additions.
