Useupyarnsfromyourstash
tofitwithyourdécor,orjust
redecorateyourbedroomaround
yournewdreamheadboard.
Weekendsarelookingprettyquiet
at themoment,afterall.

(^01) First,makesurethepegboard
has 53 fullsquaresacrossand 47
fullsquaresdown.Placea dust
clothoroldtowelunderneaththe
cutpegboard,thencleanit as
thoroughlyaspossible,making
suretogetallthedustoutofthe
holes,otherwisethiswillgetonto
theyarnwhenstitching.
(^02) Workingoutside,orin a
well-ventilatedarea,spraythefront
andsidesoftheboardwithprimer.
Repeatwiththespraypaint,using
twoorthreecoatstoensurethe
boardis evenlycovered,leavingit
todryin betweeneachcoat.
(^03) Sticka smallpieceofwashitape
betweeneveryfiveholesalongthe
topandsideoftheboardtocreate
a grid– thiswillmakestitching
easier.Testthewashitapeona
smallareafirsttomakesureit won’t
pulloffthepaint.
(^04) Referringtothechartonpage
79,startat thetopoftheboardin
oneareaofcolour.Marka small’X’
withpencilin thecentreofthe
squarestobestitchedin thatyarn
colour– thismakesit easiertosee
wherethestitcheswillgo.
(^05) Taketheyarncolourthat
correspondstotheareachosen
andcuta 3-4m(118^1 / 8 -157")
length.Theyarnwillbedoubled
up,sotheactuallengthwillbe
1.5 -2m(59^1 / 8 -78^7 / 8 ").Forsmaller
areas,lessyarncanbeused.
Cuttingthelengthtoolongwill
takelongertostitchthroughthe
holes,butcuttingit tooshortwill
resultinfrequentrestringing.
Threadtheyarnthroughtheneedle
andleaveit doubledup,making
suretheendsarethesamelength.
(^06) Tostartthecrossstitchpattern,
bringtheneedleupfromtheback
ofthepegboardthroughthe
bottomleftofonesquare.Takethe
needledownthroughthetopright
ofthesquare,stitchingonehalfof
an’X’diagonally.If thereare
severalstitchesofthesamecolour
in a row,continueacrosstherow
stitchinghalfofeach’X’,catching
theyarntailunderneaththe
stitchesat thebacktosecureit.
(^07) At the end of the row, work back
toward the first stitch, bringing
the needle up through the bottom
right hole and back down through
the top left hole, as shown.
