If you have any news or views you’d like to see covered, we’d love to hear from you

Our May issue went on sale as
we all began adjusting to the new
normal of lockdown life. The
magazine had been commissioned
before we could fully comprehend
the impact of Covid-19, but many
of you got in touch to tell us that
our joy-themed edition brightened
your spirits, and gave you the
opportunity to reflect or escape.
Nicola Diss wrote us this lovely
letter: ‘At the start of the quarantine
period, I found myself smiling when
my copy of Red slipped through
the letterbox,’ she wrote. ‘At a time
when important daily news briefings
held my attention, I was surprised
and pleased to have a distraction.
In more normal times, we work
and juggle and browse. Downtime
is often a quick browse online, the
snap of a headline, a scan of tweets.
Even reading happens at speed.
But suddenly, under new living
conditions, I had time to immerse
myself in a magazine, and with
that, a version of life that provided
hope, community, friendship
and inspiration.
I love the feel of smooth, cold
paper between my fingers as the
sun beats down on the crown of
my head; the faint sound of paper
flicking through my fingers and
the peace that stems from reading
paper, rather than listening to the
TV. It’s hearing your breath, quiet
and calm, as you digest the articles.

SAY IT,

WRITE IT,

SHARE IT.

So, I thank you for the distraction.
For the vision of better days, past
and future, that sparkle like a glint
of light on a glass of water.’
And we were thrilled to hear from
Jayne Jones. ‘Just giving yourself
time to read a magazine like Red is
therapeutic and helps you forget for
a short time the stresses and strains
the pandemic is having on us all,’
she wrote. ‘I will be donating my
past copies of Red to my local
hospital for the NHS staff on the
frontline to help them relax in their
downtime. A small gesture of thanks
for being such absolute heroes. Stay
safe, stay home and read Red!’
