Among the Kent coast’s
advantages is how reachable
it is from London, offering
bucket-and-spade fun or
charming resort towns just a
train ride away. Whitstable is
especially popular, perhaps
thanks to its boutique
shops and delicious seafood

  • particularly the native
    oysters, which have inspired
    an annual festival attracting
    tourists from all over
    the country.

Speaking of seaside
attractions: Morecambe in
Lancashire will be the home
of Eden Project North, scheduled to open in 2023 as the
northern counterpart to the indoor rainforest attraction in
Cornwall. Based on the sandy seafront, Eden Project North
will contain different zones designed to connect visitors
with Morecambe Bay’s nature. In the surrounding area, art
fans can look out for The Tern Project, a series of creative
installations inspired by Morecambe’s birdlife.

And if your group is itching for some lively entertainment,
Blackpool is less than an hour away. The famous beach
resort sports three piers, each bearing family-friendly
attractions like SEA Life Blackpool and North Pier theatre,
although the best place to start might be with a heritage
tram ride. Large groups are eligible for discounts with

Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours, whose fleet contains
trams dating back more than 80 years, offering a unique
way to sightsee along the promenade (with private
hire available).

Stretching along the east of England’s Golden Mile is
Great Yarmouth, once an important fishing port that
grew into a major seaside resort described in Charles
Dickens’ David Copperfield as the ‘finest place in the
universe’. Its herring history and maritime heritage leaves
lots of unique architecture behind for visitors to see while
exploring the town centre and South Quay. For evening
entertainment, check out the Hippodrome Circus - the
country’s last remaining circus building.
