Peepers
HERE’S LOOKING AT YOU! SEEING IS BELIEVING
WITH THESE WILD AND WEIRD ANIMAL EYES.
Peculiar
The slit-like pupils in domestic cats’ eyes provide a distinct look, but they also have
a purpose. Cats are active both day and night, and their eyes can adjust to all light
settings. Their pupils are round when letting in lots of light and become slits to let in less.
Not only do goats like this ibex have horizontal, rectangular-shaped pupils, they can
rotate their peepers 50 degrees—10 times more than humans can—to keep those
slits parallel with the ground. This helps them spot predators while they’re grazing.
