WE’RE PLAYING AND

WHY WE LOVE THEM

Robin’s
choice
ASSASSIN’S
CREED ODYSSEY
Half a year later, I’m
still chipping away at
what must be Ubisoft’s most
expansive open world ever. It’s that
scale that made me fall in love with
Odyssey, but some days I do wonder
if I’ll still be playing it in my dotage...

Adam’s
choice
SEKIRO: SHADOWS
DIE TWICE
Sometime I feel the
need to punish
myself, to cleanse my soul of all sin,
so this month I’ve been playing
Sekiro. Dark Souls may have taught
me patience, but nothing quite
prepared me for this shinobi hell.

THE VICTIM
FOR FANS OF Broadchurch
Kelly MacDonald delivers a searing
performance as the grieving mother
convinced of finding the man who killed her
child. The man meanwhile attests his
innocence. This gripping BBC miniseries is
uncomfortable yet essential viewing.

THE KILLERS
FOR FANS OF A History Of Violence
If you want to learn more about classic noir,
The Killers is showing on Mubi. Based on an
Ernest Hemingway short story, it sees two
hitmen take over a small-town diner to kill
an ex-boxer, and stars Ava Gardner as a
deadly femme fatale.

CHILLING ADVENTURES
OF SABRINA S2
FOR FANS OF Riverdale, Charmed
This second season sees budding
sorceress Sabrina struggle to contain her
new powers while juggling school and boys.
These Chilling Adventures are a dark delight
for all wannabe wiccans.

THE INCREDIBLES 2
FOR FANS OF Teen Titans, Black Lightning
We’re so happy to see The Incredibles
back, the super-powered family who saved
the world from destruction 15 years ago.
Now they’re back to take on the Screen
Slaver in a joyous sugar rush of a sequel
that raises the bar for all superhero films.

OUR PLANET
FOR FANS OF Blue Planet
Our beloved David Attenborough returns
with this devastating series about the
effects of climate change on our Earth’s
natural beauty. Spectacular in scope and
execution, Our Planet educates us on how
to protect our planet.

UNICORN STORE
FOR FANS OF Whip It, Little Miss Sunshine
Brie Larson shrugs off her Captain Marvel
cape for her directorial debut. Larson stars
as the free-spirited Kit, who’s promised the
companion of her dreams, a unicorn, if she
proves herself worthy. A love letter to
confetti, glitter and girlhood.

LINE OF DUTY S5
FOR FANS OF Happy Valley, Bodyguard
Jed Mercurio’s police procedural has kept us
riveted since its debut in 2012, exploring
corruption in the police force. Not to
mention it’s some of the tautest, most
thrilling storytelling on TV, with series five
ramping up to be its finest.

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN
FOR FANS OF Mary Poppins Returns
A melancholy take on Winnie The Pooh,
Christopher Robin sees Winnie and co
come to the real world to save their friend
from his menial life. Met with mixed reviews,
this is still a lovely, mature look at the
pitfalls of leaving childhood behind.

ULTRAMAN
FOR FANS OF RoboCop, Pacific Rim
Netflix delivers a zany anime about a man
who discovers he’s the son of a hero called
Ultraman and that he must don the suit to
fight a new threat. Based on the manga of
the same name, Ultraman is a high-spirited
homage to monsters and mechs.

HOTEL ARTEMIS
FOR FANS OF Escape From New York
Drew Pearce’s debut is set in a dystopian
Los Angeles where criminals can go to be
patched up at Hotel Artemis. The film is
star-studded and stylised, almost entirely
set within the walls of the hotel, and kudos
to Jodie Foster as the vicious Nurse.

GAME OF THRONES S8
FOR FANS OF The 100, Battlestar Galactica
We can’t believe that this is where it all
ends: the brutal epic that made slaves of
us all. How will the White Walkers be
defeated? And who will end up on the Iron
Throne? We have so many questions, and
just six twisty episodes to sate us.

THE HAPPY PRINCE
FOR FANS OF Oscar Wilde, Maurice
Directed and written by Rupert Everett, this
biopic follows the latter years of Oscar
Wilde. Everett is magnificent as Wilde, who
lives in exile in Naples and Paris for falling
in love with a man, while Colin Morgan
glows as his manipulative young lover.

Chris’s
choice
GTA V
I keep getting
sidetracked by other
games, and GTA’s own
online offering, so I still haven’t
finished the main story. It’s been
over five years. In fact I started it on
the last generation of consoles.
This time I HAVE to finish it!
