Stormtroopers, Imperial probe droids
from Empire Strikes Back and the ever-
present emblem of the Empire. That’s
Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader’s
Galactic Empire, so we can be pretty
sure just when it’s going to be set.
And, um, that’s about all we know
for the moment, except its release
date of 15 November. It is a gorgeous
cinematic trailer that’s quite enough
to get us excited for the prospect of
a proper, story-led Star Wars game.
While we pine still for another game
as good as BioWare’s Knights Of The
Old Republic, it looks like it won’t be
forthcoming from BioWare itself but
rather from a studio better known
for multiplayer shooters like Apex
Legends and Titanfall.Yoda best
Respawn’s CEO, Vince Zampella, was
quick to lay some of the fears fans
may have about the direction of the
new Star Wars game.
“This is a Jedi fantasy, story-driven
game. We are known for multiplayer
shooters, but that’s not just who
we are. This is a story game – no
multiplayer, no microtransactions; this
is about being a Jedi.”

TO PLAY ITIt’s safe to say that EA needs a
win. After the bashing that Anthem
received upon its release, and EA’s
already-muddied reputation when
it comes to the Star Wars franchise
(great Battlefront games, but the
microtransactions made many fans
angry with the company), EA has now
officially unveiled Star Wars Jedi:
Fallen Order. The game was confirmed
at this year’s Star Wars Celebration
fan-event in Chicago, with a cinematic
trailer that promises A New Hope for
fans of both the Star Wars universe
and story-led single-player games.
So what have we learned from the
trailer and reveal? Star Wars Jedi:
Fallen Order is a story-driven, third-
person action game about Jedis,
obviously, with your character a young
Jedi on the run from the Empire’s
purge of the Knights, something that
happened during and after Episode III.
This is a character newly created for
the Star Wars universe, by the name
of Cal Kestis, one of the last surviving
Padawans following the purge of
the Emperor’s Order 66. Cal is on the
run and alone after the execution of
the other Jedi at the hands of the
Empire. So deeply must he keep his
powers hidden, that his mantra is:
“Don’t reach within, don’t stand out,
and accept the past. Trust no one,Anthem’s had a rough
time since launch,
but we’re hopeful EA
can yet improve on it.
In a recent blog post,
BioWare’s Casey
Hudson said: “We
hear the criticisms
and doubts. But we’ll
keep going anyway,
working hard every
day on Anthem – an
ever-changing world,
constantly improving
and growing, and
supported well into
the future by our
team of passionate
developers.”
STAR WARS JEDI: FALLEN ORDER INSIDER
November 2019. That’s this year. We
first heard about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen
Order almost a year ago, but at the
time it seemed as hard to imagine as a
hokey religion about an invisible force
that binds the galaxy together.
Certainly it’s hard to argue with
the credentials of the team behind
Fallen Order. Respawn has called
upon the talents of Stig Asmussen,
game director for the multi-award-
winning PS3 game God Of War 3, and
who also worked as art director and
environmental artist on previous
games in the series – clearly a man
who knows a thing or two about
single-player world-building. Respawn
itself, of course, is a consistently
fantastic game developer, and Vince
Zampella’s enthusiasm for the project
is already infectious. Zampella has
already worked on some of the
greatest game IPs of all time, and he
excitedly told Star Wars Celebration:
“To be able to add Star Wars, one of
the biggest IPs in the world across
any medium... this is just a childhood
fantasy come true for me.”
With the ninth mainline Star Wars
movie also out at the end of the year,
we’re all going to feel like super-
excited children wearing Chewbacca
onesies when the game releases
