MAKING OUR MONTH

Hi Rachael! How are you? What are
you up to at the shop today?
Hi, I am fantastic, thank you. I have
just had a delivery so I am getting
it photographed and priced, and
re-arranging shelves so that I can
put it out for sale. I just love playing,
re-arranging, making and stroking
the fabric.

Tell us a bit about how you came to
own your own shop
About eight years ago after a recent
move to Cornwall, my husband
mentioned to an independent shop
keeper whilst he was shopping that
I would love a small fabric shop and
before I knew it a small retail shop was
off ered to me and I have just grown
and grown with thanks to my amazing
customers. I have now moved from a
small shop to a bigger shop and off er
workshops and classes, and even
sell wool.

Which sewing machine would you
recommend for a beginner or an
experienced sewist?
I just love the Necchi Q132A, it’s a
semi heavy-duty, professional sewing
machine, which is excellent value for
money and will sew through almost
anything, but anyone looking at buying
a sewing machine would have to think
about what they want from it fi rst!

What sets you apart from
other shops?
Our customer service, and the fact that
we off er lots all under one roof. We are
a family run shop, with my daughters
helping out at the weekends and
my husband servicing and repairing
machines, it is a lovely atmosphere,
plus we have a comfortable seating
area for customers to relax in.

Rachael

Is there anything new or exciting
coming up that you’d like to tell our
readers about?
There is always something going
on in the shop and we have lots
of workshops planned. We have
Christmas in July workshops which
include a Christmas dinner and Andy
from Crafty UK (Hochanda) will be
teaching one of the workshops, so
really exciting times ahead of us!
