POUCH: PART 4

To follow this
EPP-along series,
grab issues 73, 74
and 75, available at
http://www.moremags.com

FISED ZE: 8½" SURE

MATERIALS (FOR PART 4)
◆ sewing thread (I used
Gütermann 100% polyester
sew-all thread)
◆ Clover fl ower-head pins
◆ your in-progress A Pop of Red
pouch (made during parts 1-3
in previous issues)

combined with the topstitch, as it will
help to ensure the fabric won’t get
caught in your zip whenever you use it.
(See Pic A.)

ASSEMBLY

1

Open your zip so that it is fully open
(this will make it much easier when
turning the bag through later on).

2

Pin together the two outer fabric
pieces with right sides together,
making sure that the edges line up
with one another. (See Pic B.)

3

Repeat this by pinning together
the two lining fabrics with right
sides together, making sure that the
edges line up with one another. You
also need to make sure that the bulk of
the zipper and tabs are pointing down
towards, and being caught in between,
your two lining fabrics as opposed to
your two outer fabrics. (See Pic C.)

Things t rememer

Use a ⅜ " seam allowance
throughout unless
otherwise stated
FQ – fat quarter

4

Your pouch should now be pinned so
that the right sides of the two outer
fabrics are touching, the right sides of
the two lining fabrics are touching and
the zipper/tabs are pointing towards/
caught in between the lining fabric.
(See Pic D.)

5

Starting at the bottom edge of the
lining fabric, sew all the way around
the four edges of your pouch with ¼”
seam allowance (using a walking foot

TOP-STITCHING THE ZIP

1

Iron your in-progress A Pop of Red
pouch so that the fabric lies fl at.

2

Using your sewing machine (and
zipper foot so that you can get
close to the zip), then top-stitch either
side of your zip. These stitches will be
seen so it is up to you whether to use
a thread that blends in or a contrasting
thread to stand out. Make sure the
fabric (both the outer fabric and the
lining fabric) is taut as you sew as this
