Take the zip and one outer bag

piece. Fold each one in half to find

the centre of the zip and the top of

the bag piece, then match up the two

folds right sides together. Pin in place,

then measure ½" in from each side

and make a mark – these marks will be

where you start and stop sewing, so

it’s very important that you don’t go

past them. (See pics A & B.)

Using a zipper foot, baste the

zip to the outer bag piece,

making sure you only stitch

between the marks.

MATERIALS

    ◆ fat quarter quilting cotton for

outer bag

    ◆ fat quarter quilting cotton for

lining & handle

    ◆ 0.5m fusible woven interfacing

    ◆ zip

    ◆ template

Things to remember

Use a ¼" seam allowance

throughout unless

otherwise stated

F8th – fat eighth

HST – half square triangle

WOF – width of fabric

Take one lining piece and on the back

of it make a mark ½" in from each

side at the top. Place the lining piece

right sides together with the outer piece,

sandwiching the zip in between. Stitch

in place, making sure you only stitch

between the marks. (See Pic C.)

Open the two pieces out and press

them away from the zip. Make a

mark ½" in from each side at the top

and top-stitch between the two marks

⅛" from the seam. (See Pic D.)

Repeat steps 4-7 with the remaining

outer and lining pieces.

CUTTING

From the outer fabric, cut:

2 outer pieces from the template piece

From the lining fabric, cut:

2 lining pieces from the template piece

4x8" handle piece

From the fusible woven interfacing, cut:

4 pieces from the template piece

4x8" handle piece

PREPARATION

Take the toiletries bag outer and

lining pieces of fusible woven

interfacing and fuse to the back

of the fabric pieces following the

manufacturer’s instructions.

Take the bag handle piece of

fusible woven interfacing and

fuse to the back of the fabric

handle piece following the

manufacturer’s instructions.

Take the bag zip and tack the

open end closed just past the

zipper stop.
