The two ends are simple – the
three strips are joined together
starting with Fabric D, then Fabric A
and Fabric B. Join to the ends of the
three centre blocks.

9

Lay the backing face down and the
wadding on top. Place the pressed,
pieced panel on the next (face up)
and pin.

Quilt with your favourite
design. I used a random wavy
design worked on the diagonal.
It is easy to do on your machine
at home too.

Using an object such as a teacup,
round the corners of the runner.

Make the bias binding by cutting
3.5cm-wide strips on the bias and
then join them together to form a long
strip. Fold in half lengthways and press,
then fold the raw edges in and press
them too. A bias tape maker will make
this easier.

13

Sew on the bias by opening the
fold and aligning the raw edges
of the tape and runner edge. Stitch in
the ditch, fold the tape over and either
top-stitch neatly through both layers or

TOP TIP!

When you pin, crease the
centre of the curved ‘pie’
piece and the ‘L’ piece
and match those two
creases, pin the two ends
perfectly and then gently
fit the curves

Making bias binding
1 Using a set square and chalk, mark
lines about 1½" apart at a 45° angle
across the fabric. Cut along the
drawn lines.
2 To join strips together, place two
pieces at right angles, draw a line
from corner to corner and pin each
side. Sew along the line.
3 Trim approximately ¼" from the
seam allowance and press the seam
open. Continue to join the strips
together until the bias strip is the
required size for your project.
