system I was keenly
anticipating your article
‘Best lenses for your
mirrorless systems’ (13
June issue) but found it
quite disappointing. Whilst
best lenses were identifi ed
for Canon, Nikon, Sony,
Fujifi lm, Olympus and
Panasonic systems, what
happened to Leica? Does
Leica not have mirrorless
systems incorporating the
SL or SL2 cameras with a
range of matching
lenses? It would have been
interesting to see which
lenses would have been
suggested for that system.
Similarly Zeiss did not even
get a mention. I would
have thought that some of
its lenses might just have
outperformed those of the
major camera
manufacturers. Pentax too
didn’t merit a mention. It is
not that the article was
bad, more that it could
have been more all-
embracing and covered
every mirrorless camera
system available for
purchase in the UK.
Ken Bradley

This feature covered the
best lenses for all of the
current systems, aside
from Hasselblad medium
format. Leica was
included as part of the
L-Mount Alliance, which
we covered briefl y on the
Panasonic page. Pentax
does not have a
mirrorless system, and
neither does Zeiss, but
the lovely Zeiss Batis
40mm F2 CF was one of
our top three picks for
Sony full-frame users.

Inspired by my X100V
Having recently given my
much unloved Canon EOS
M3 to my wife I was
inspired by Michael
Topham’s glowing review
(AP 24 April) to splash out
on a Fujifi lm X100V as my
new compact camera.
Having exclusively used
Canon cameras for the
past 15 years I have the

The one that got away
Anglers are known for their
frequent tales of woe
about ‘the one that got
away’ which makes me
wonder if any
photographers are
prepared to admit to their
missed chances.
In my case, and in the
days of fi lm, I had to stop to
reload while a motor race
at Silverstone was in full
fl ow. Sure enough, before

the new fi lm was in place
and the camera back was
closed there was an
almighty shunt right in
front of me involving fi ve
cars. Fortunately, nobody
was hurt, but prides were
badly dented including my
own that such an action-
packed scene unfolded
without a single shot being
taken. My lesson thereafter
was to have two loaded
cameras and to wait until

reload timings were better
controlled.
Digital cameras certainly
have cut the chances of
missed opportunities but
I wonder how many fellow
AP readers have similar
tales? Barry Trent
