Yesterday’s racing results

The helpline is being funded by UK
Sport and Sport England.
“This is a significant moment for
sport as a whole,” Aggar said. “It is
important that athletes who come
forward are heard and supported.”
The BAC’s members include 1,200
athletes across 40 sports. But the
seriousness of this issue means that the
BAC is “opening its doors” to elite
athletes from other sports.
“The helpline is a safe space for fur-
ther whistleblowing and will offer ath-
letes the opportunity to input into the
independent review,” a statement read.
The confidential helpline is free and
staffed by trained NSPCC counsellors.
The helpline will be available 8am-10pm
on weekdays and 9am-6pm on weekends
on 0800 056 0566

Frank Lampard has given Harlequins
tips on how to emulate Chelsea and
make a successful return to action
when the Premiership season resumes
on August 14.
The Chelsea head coach, who visited
Harlequins last autumn as part of his
Uefa coaching licence, guided his team
into the FA Cup final with a 2-0 victory
over Manchester United on Sunday.
Chelsea are also third in the Premier
League and are aiming to secure
Champions League football for next
season.
Harlequins will resume their
Premiership campaign seven points off
the play-off places but with a rebuilt
back division after they had been
ravaged by injuries during the first half
of the campaign.
Paul Gustard, the Harlequins head of
rugby, has spent lockdown studying
Super Rugby for tactical developments
and picking the brains of British & Irish
Lions tour veterans on how best to
manage midweek matches.
Last week he called Lampard for
advice on playing in an empty stadium.
Acclimatisation will be vital, he learnt,
so too the influence of ultra-competi-
tive players such as Mike Brown and
Chris Robshaw.
“I have been talking to Frank Lam-
pard about these players going into an
environment which they probably have
not experienced since they have been

The British Athletes Commission has
said that it is already reviewing several
cases relating to allegations of bullying
and other forms of abuse within British
Gymnastics.
The BAC yesterday launched a help-
line in tandem with the NSPCC to
support athletes and, if necessary,
direct them to the relevant authorities.
Vicki Aggar, the chairwoman of the
BAC, told The Times that it has been
“busy” since claims about abuse
surfaced this month.
Last week British Gymnastics said it
would step aside and allow UK Sport
and Sport England to conduct an inde-
pendent review into the allegations.

in school — where there is no crowd
and no one there,” Gustard said.
“What you want are the people who
are most instinctively driven to
compete and the likes of Brown and
Chris Robshaw have never shirked the
ability to compete.
“Those are the personality
types you want when there is no
one driving you from outside.”
After talking with Lampard,
Gustard will try to organise a
friendly or an intra-squad
match at the Twicken-
ham Stoop to replicate
what it will be like when
Sale Sharks visit on
August 14.
“As Eddie [Jones]
often says, with clarity
you get confidence. So as
coaches and players it’s good
for us to know and experience
what we’re about to play,”
Gustard said.
Harlequins will resume the
campaign with a new-look back
line. Brown, the 34-year-old full
back, has not played since under-
going knee surgery in December
but he is on course to be fit for the
Sale game.
Nathan Earle, the wing, is fit again,
Joe Marchant is back from a stint in
Super Rugby with the Blues, while An-
dré Esterhuizen and Chris Ashton have

joined the club. “We had a frustrating
first half of the year. Our injury rate was
crippling,” Gustard said. “The possible
team is 50 per cent different from the
first part of the year.
“Mike’s [Brown] professionalism is
incredible. If you told him to get up at
3.16am to put an ice pack on, he
would do that.
“He is fiercely determined to play
and we anticipate having him
fully available for game one.
“We have themed this
‘Prime Time’. We are
priming ourselves for
our launch on the
Premiership and then
it is a knockout. Each
game, if you get a
positive result, we will get
closer to where we ultimately
want to get.”
Lampard visited Harle-
quins with Michael Carrick,
the Manchester United
first-team coach, and
Gustard has also built a
relationship with Sean
Dyche, the Burnley
manager, through his
involvements in FA
coaching courses.
“We have to learn from other
sports, Gustard said. “It’s good
just to share knowledge, see
what we can learn, see what
we can take... and then see
how we can move our pro-
gramme forward.”

The Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien will
provide the biggest barrier to the
brilliant Enable as she chases a third
win in the King George VI and Queen
Elizabeth Qipco Stakes at Ascot on
Saturday, having made six of the eight
entries for the midsummer showpiece.
Enable is attempting to become the
first horse to win the prize three times,
having been successful in both 2017 and
last year. John Gosden’s charge was
runner-up to Ghaiyyath in the Coral-
Eclipse at Sandown Park on her reap-
pearance this month but is likely to be
sharper with that race under her belt.
She is generally the 8-11 favourite to

regain the winning thread and her main
market rivals are all trained by O’Brien,
who is seeking a fifth King George
victory.
The shortest-priced of O’Brien’s
sextet is Magical, an 11-4 chance who
has been beaten by Enable on all five
meetings. Nonetheless, she is a five-
times group one winner and made a
successful return to action when
beating Cayenne Pepper in the Pretty
Polly Stakes at the Curragh.
O’Brien also has 5-1 chance, Japan,
who will appreciate a return to a mile
and a half after a one-paced third in the
Eclipse, as well as last year’s Derby
winner, Anthony Van Dyck, who per-
haps found the ground too soft when
below par at Royal Ascot.
