Paint-splatter
cake
gel food colouring
115g (4oz) Candy Melts of each
colour
rapeseed oil, for thinning

1 Before baking the vanilla cake, evenly
divide the batter among three bowls.
Tint each bowl of bat ter a dif ferent
colour with gel food colouring. Pour a
small amount of batter, one different
colour per tin, into the three prepared
tins. Pour a second, different colour into
the centre of each pan, on top of the
first colour. Repeat, making a bull’s-eye

effect, until all the batter has been used.
2 Use a wooden skewer or the tip of a
paring knife to swirl the batter in each
pan. Bake as directed.
3 Once assembled, smoothly frost the
cake with the remaining buttercream.
4 For the paint-splatter design, put each
colour of Candy Melts in a separate bowl
and microwave according to the
instructions on the packet. Stir in a little bit
of oil, ½ tsp at a time, to thin as needed.
5 Line your workspace with parchment
paper. Dip a spoon into one of the
melted candy coatings and swiftly fling
the coloured coating onto the cake.
Create splatters of the various colours
all around the top and sides of the cake.
