shown, as are the
desperate attempts

life while Gee asks
a nurse to pray with
her. It’s a powerful,
gut-wrenching watch
from the first minute
to the last.

old friend Mick (who is
homeless) and starts a
family. Everything leads
back to that terrible
summer day, which
takes over the second
half of the film, when
Anthony, his cousin
Marcus and Anthony’s
girlfriend were chased
by racist thugs while

becoming a lawyer,
and Jimmy McGovern’s
story of what might
have been forcefully
brings home the sense
of gnawing absence
that a shock death
creates, the children
this person was never
able to have and the
songs he might have
sung. Essentially, it is
a drama of two halves
that tracks this
imagined future

senseless killing that
shocked the nation
and ended the life of a
young man blessed with
intelligence, kindness
and strong moral
convictions. Yet this
drama starts with
Anthony (brilliantly
played by Toheeb
Jimoh) at 25, having
married his girlfriend
and winning awards for
good deeds. Anthony
