A chimp killed a
toddler named Mujuni
Semata in Kyamajaka
in July 2 014. After
the family fled, chimps
remained in the
village—even staring
at their reflections
in the windows of the
Sematas’ vacant house.

chimpanzee passes. In
western Uganda small

wild foods, they forage
among crops and fruit
trees, competing with
people for sustenance,
space, and survival.
