Otters were once nearly extinct in Singapore’s rivers,
but decades of environmental restoration have
helped the frolicsome animals return. One morn-
ing while Kang walked along the city’s Marina Bay
on the lookout for the water mammals, a popular
group of otters known to locals as the Bishan fam-
ily was swimming and feeding near the shoreline.
Kang chose a spot on the path and waited. It took
20 minutes, but finally the family arrived and began
to swim and play directly in front of her.WHO
