Moises Saman is a Magnum photographer
from Lima, Peru, and currently based in Jordan
who has covered conflicts around the world,
including in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
His last assignment for the magazine was
photographing Japanese families on holiday in
Gunma, Kagoshima and Kanagawa prefectures.
This week he photographed protests in Iraq
demanding an end to corruption. ‘‘I’ve been
coming to Iraq since 2002,’’ Saman says. ‘‘This
time, what was most striking was the younger
generation rising up. They have inherited disorder:
the American invasion and the internal and
regional conflicts that followed. Despite the
appalling violence I witnessed against protesters,
I found the situation to be hopeful. They are trying
to reclaim their country and a real future.’’

Helen Macdonald is a contributing writer for
the magazine and the author of the best-selling
memoir ‘‘H Is for Hawk.’’ Her article this week
is adapted from her new collection of essays,
‘‘Vesper Flights,’’ to be published in August.

Hannah Price is a photographic artist and
filmmaker based in Philadelphia, with a focus on
documenting relationships and race politics.
She last photographed a family whose financial
struggles were exacerbated by the pandemic.

Robert F. Worth is a contributing writer for the
magazine whose book on the 2011 Arab uprisings,
‘‘A Rage for Order,’’ won the 2017 Lionel Gelber
Prize. He last wrote about the leader of the United
Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed.

Linda Villarosa is a contributing writer for the
magazine, focusing on race and health. She
teaches journalism and Black studies at the City
College of New York in Harlem. She last wrote
about racial disparities revealed by Covid-19.
