‘My goal is to live to 130’

If anyone is growing weary of the
attention being heaped on Bryson
DeChambeau there is some bad news.
The bulked-up American’s appearance
at the WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational
has been notable for a risible debate
about ants and his new ambition of
living for another 100 years.
On the course in Memphis, Brendon
Todd set the second-round pace with a
five-under-par 65 that gave him a two-
shot lead over his fellow American

Rickie Fowler, but DeChambeau, 26,
raised eyebrows after an interview with
GQ magazine. Explaining his approach
to self-improvement, he said: “I’m
always trying to add more value to my
life in general. My goal is to live to 130 or

  1. I think that’s possible now with
    today’s technology. Someone’s going to
do it in the next 30 or 40 years.”
    His idiosyncratic approach has also
been on show as he tried to gain relief
on the 7th under the “Dangerous
Animal Condition” — claiming he saw
a fire ant. DeChambeau did not get his
way and made a double bogey, ending
    in joint 43rd place after a three-over 73.
