Charlotte.However,theyfoundtheycouldgetmorefor

theirmoneybysearchingsouthoftheriver.‘Alotofour

friendsweremovingsouthandwelovedthisparticular

area’saysCharlotte.‘Ithasa farmer’smarketona Sunday

andreallynicelittleindependentshops.Itfeelslikeyou’re

leavingLondonwhenyouwalkoutofthestation.’

Charlotteis ratherlesseffusiveaboutherinitial

impressionsoftheirnewhouse:‘Itcertainlywasn’tlove

atfirstsight,’shesays.‘Ithadbeenusedasa rentaland

noneoftheinteriorswereinkeepingwiththeperiodof

theproperty.’Inthesittingroomwasa Seventiesfireplace

thatconcealedtheboiler,andthewallswerepaintedin

garishpurples,bluesandyellows.Consequently,assoon

asthecouplemovedin,theystartedtotransformthe

interior.Theybeganbyknockingthroughtheseparate

kitchenandlivingrooms.‘Thekitchenis north-facing

andit feltreallydarkandboxy,’saysCharlotte.‘I love

nowhavinga free,openandmoresocialspace.’

Charlotte,a graphicdesigner,is inspiredbythe

Scandinavianapproachtodecor.‘WhenI wasa student,
