revivetheproperty’ssoul,’saysTanja,‘andwefoundthat

subtleArtDecotouchesweretheperfectwaytodothat,

whilesofteradditions,suchasthepalepinksheers in

thesittingroom,introduceda littleromance.’

Afanofpaintingandcrafting,Tanjarolledupher

sleeves to undertake the creative tasks that would make all

thedifference.‘Whenwemoved

in,wesoonrealisedthatwe

couldn’tbeartolivetoolong

withtheoakkitchen,whichjust

didn’tchimewiththerestofour

schemes,’saysTanja.‘Butwe

knewthatwe’dundertakea fuller

renovationinthefuture.So,inthemeantime,wesimply

paintedallthecabinetryandreplacedthedoorfurniture,

whichresultedina completelydifferentlook.’

AnotherhandytipwasTanja’sbudgetapproachto

fresheningupthetiling.‘i uploadedsomemusic,puton

myheadphonesandgotdowntoworkwitha whitegrout

pen,’shesays.‘itwasfairlytime-consumingbuttheresults

wereworthit.Thewallsofthekitchenandthe existing

bathroomnowfeelfreshandnewagain.’

Thecouple’shomehasbeenfurnishedwitha mix

offleamarketfindsandnewpieces.‘Mystyleisn’treally

uniform,’reflectsTanja.‘it’sa mixofmodern,Victorian,

glamorous,Frenchandvintage.Butsomehowit comes

togethertocreatea personalstatement.Youdon’tneed

a majorrenovationtomakea housea home.i findit’s
