A Texan man has pleaded guilty to stealing over $1.
million worth of fajitas over the course of nine years
whilst working at a local juvenile detention centre.
Gilberto Escamilla was reportedly sentenced to 50 years
in prison following the discovery that he had been ordering
the popular Mexican meal in bulk using county funds and on
selling them for his own profit. Escamilla was also served the maximum fine of
$10,000 along with having to pay back the full cost of the stolen food. The shifty
scheme unravelled when a driver contacted the detention centre regarding a
360-kilogram fajita delivery. Employees became suspicious given the centre did
not and had not ever served fajitas in their kitchen. During his court testimony,
Escamilla stated, “It was selfish. It started small and got bigger and out of
control.” After being fired and arrested, police searched Escamilla’s home and
found packages of the fajitas in his fridge.

ADVENTURE

Some of the heftiest hounds in the United Kingdom have recently
battled the bulge in a six-month diet and exercise challenge. Vet charity
PDSA, holds an annual Fit Club competition which last year saw B
a formally curved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel shed around seve
kilograms. Annmarie Formoy, Borris’s owner, admitted her family
were guilty of feeding the pampered pooch too many treats and w
“delighted” by Borris’s weight loss journey. The tailored program
overseen by trained vets and nurses with dogs that lose the highest
percentage of body weight being declared the winners. Formoy added,
“The best part was the first time that I saw Borris taking his first few
running steps, it made me want to cry, I was so happy. He hadn’t run
in years!” Borris and his owners will enjoy a pet-friendly holiday and a
year’s free pet food as their prize.

An American explorer has become the first person to cross Antarctica alone
and unaided. Colin O’Brady completed the 1,500 kilometre adventure in 54 days
as he lugged 170 kilometres of gear on a sled whilst skiing through chilling
temperatures and tough terrain. The 33-year-old reflected on the final 129
kilometres of his journey saying, “While the last 32 hours were some of the
most challenging hours of my life, they have quite honestly been some of the
best moments I have ever experienced.” O’Brady documented his almost
entirely uphill trek, which he deemed The Impossible First, on his Instagram
page. Although others have conquered Antarctica, they have done so with
assistance or kites to help move them forward. O’Brady has also conquered
Mount Everest and remains undecided on his next adventure.
