Romance, dragons and mind-rending tentacle beasts – this month’s round-up

of new releases has just about everything you could ever want from roleplaying!

Words by Richard Jansen-Parkes

STAR CROSSED
One of the most
fascinating RPGs
to cross our desks
in a long time, Star
Crossed is a two-player
game about forbidden
love and dangerous
attraction. Games last
maybe two hours and
rely on a precarious
tower of wooden
blocks to represent the
willpower needed to
quash the characters’
romantic urges.
Bully Pulpit | £

SHADOWRUN:
BETTER THAN BAD
Only Shadowrun
could need an entire
sourcebook dedicated
to doing good deeds
because you want to
help people rather
than make money off
them. Built for the fifth
edition of the game,
this book looks to be a
great addition to any
campaign with a slightly
more altruistic outlook
than usual.
Catalyst Game Labs | £

CALL OF CTHULHU:
SEVENTH EDITION
STARTER SET
The idea of a simple,
welcoming path into the
infamously deadly Call of
Cthulhu may seem strange,
but this box set looks to be
a great way to get to grips
with the game. It comes
loaded with pre-generated
characters, a series of
starter adventures and
everything else you need
to make the transition to
madness nice and easy.
Chaosium | £

THE ONE RING RPG:
THE LAUGHTER
OF DRAGONS
Cubicle 7’s short
campaigns set in Middle-
earth have always been
solid, and this latest
book promises a half-
dozen adventures set
on and about the Lonely
Mountain – once home
to the dragon Smaug.
Just try and put the
disappointing Hobbit
movies out of your mind
when you play...
Cubicle 7 | £

MODERN AGE:
BASIC RULEBOOK
From the developers
that produced Fantasy
AGE, this RPG aims to
show that adventure
and action didn’t die
off with the advent of
the steam engine. It’s
packed with rules for
exploring different time
periods ranging from the
industrial revolution to the
sci-fi future, and genres
spanning urban fantasy to
hard-boiled crime.
