Workout App
on ;Watch
The Apple Watch’s Workout app is a real boon to those who like their exercise. You
can track your favourite workouts, with reminders sent about milestones during your
session, and when you’re done, you get a detailed breakdown of what you achieved.
It’s all in the Workout app which is bundled with the Apple Watch.
Setting Up and Using Workout
With the Workout app, you can go for an outdoor or indoor run, walk or cycle, work out on a
stair stepper, a rower or an elliptical cross-trainer. You can set a calorie figure, a distance or a time.
1
Open the Workout app. You’re offered
a list of potential workouts you might
wish to try, including Swim, Elliptical (aka a
cross trainer), Outdoor Walk, Outdoor Run,
Outdoor Cycle, Indoor Walk, Indoor Run,
Indoor Cycle, Rower, Stair Stepper, High-
Intensity Interval Training, Other. Choose the
one you want to use.
2
Here we’re going for an outdoor run so
make sure you have your tracksuit and
training shoes at the ready. As instructed you
should take your iPhone on a 20 minute run to
calibrate the app and improve accuracy. This is
what we’ll do for this tutorial but you can use
these tips to set up any workout in the future.
3
There are four targets to choose from.
First is Active Calories, which sets how
many calories you should burn during the run.
Swipe left for elapsed time, distance in miles
or km and an open run with no set goal
respectively. Here we’ll choose time. These
options are the same for most workouts but
with no distance target for exercises where
you don’t actually move.
