Mapping mayhem. System-wide Dark Mode
New Volume slider.
1
Maps has gained a trio of new features, including a 3D street
view. To access it, tap Look Around or the Binoculars icon.
It’s currently only available in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and
Honolulu, but it will undoubtedly roll out elsewhere soon.
1
Dark Mode was introduced to the Mac with macOS: Mojave,
and a year later, it comes to the iPad with iPadOS. Switching
to Dark Mode changes the way the screen looks, for example, using
white text on a black background.
2
Your Favourites are also much easier to access now and
appear at the top of searches. You can create lists of
Favourites and share them with friends. Just open a Favourite and
tap Add to..., then add it to a collection.
2
Dark Mode is available system-wide, so Apple’s own apps also
benefit from it. More and more third-party developers are
making their apps Dark Mode compatible too, so if you prefer a
darker screen, it’s fantastic news.
3
Zoom in on a map and then push up with two fingers to access
the 3D version. It’s much more detailed, with buildings and
features drawn on with great accuracy. It’s not available everywhere,
but will launch in more places soon.
When using the iPad’s volume buttons, you used to get a non-
interactive graphic showing the volume bar increasing or
decreasing. This has now been replaced by a slider, which you can
tap and adjust on the screen.
