Death Stranding

Kojima’s hiking sim is certainly flawed, but
the PC port allows us to appreciate its
strengths anew – it looks great even on our
relatively meagre rig, and this time we can
happily skip all those cutscenes. Turns out it’s
a great podcast game, too. Squeeze both
triggers to slow right down as you negotiate
the craggy hills and rushing streams of the
United States of Iceland, and let your
listening of choice soundtrack a leisurely
wander around one of the most memorable
settings in recent years.
Alice: Madness Returns
PC
Possibly inspired by our brain-hopping
cover game, we get the strangest urge to
return to American McGee’s 2011 sequel.
Plenty holds up – most notably Ken Wong’s
art direction, which provides fantastical
dresses to wear and cigar-smoking crabs to
fight. But this collectathon 3D platformer
can’t touch Psychonauts for nuance and
sensitivity, with its peekaboo-shoulder
straitjacket and a final third that doesn’t
quite treat a difficult theme with due care.
Red Dead Online
Xbox One
We needed little excuse to pour yet more
hours into Rockstar’s Western RPG, but the
latest update and new Naturalism frontier
pursuit had us saddling up quicker than you
can say “David Attenborough”. Considering
the game’s over-reliance on hunting as a
means to earn money, it’s nice to be able to
appreciate all those majestic animals rather
than skin them. Although we did initially
read it wrong, and take off all our clothes.Explore the iPad
