ON.OFFLINE
An event for web designers to think about their place in the world

As people spend more of their work and
leisure time staring at screens they are
becoming increasingly detached from the world
around them. This conference aims to address
this disconnect. From discussions about
environmental concerns to workshops on UX and
pen testing, it is a platform for designers to
question their role in the wider environment.
The site’s design blends natural, botanical
elements with a bright background. There is a
contrasting palette of muted tones versus bright
RGB green (not visible in print!). We’ve kept
it clean, unfussy and with clear instructions
for how to buy tickets. On the mobile version,
even more information is removed. Users are
encouraged to follow social accounts where they
can engage more with the brand.
The main feature of the site is pushing sales of
tickets, which will link to an external ticketing
system such as Eventbrite or Tickera.

CLOSE UP

(1) Social-media links direct users to social platforms,
where the majority of marketing momentum will
be taking place. Users are also encouraged to begin
debate in the build-up to the event. (2) A newsletter
signup will ensure as much data capture from potential
attendees as possible. We’ll regularly engage with
everyone on the run-up to the event via both email
and social platforms. (3) To help build momentum and
a sense of urgency, we’ve added an attendee ticker to
the landing page. This will display the live amount of
attendees registered via external booking platforms
and payment gateways. The ‘ticker’ only displays once
10 per cent of attendees have registered. (4) Big,
impactful branding with a slight 3D edge to reflect the
theme of the web conference. (5) Simple and intuitive
smartphone design, straight to the point by displaying
only core information. The core focus is ‘location’ and
‘tickets’ – we’re sending users right there.
