18Out &##### ABOUTThis feature tells you about our travels out and about, events around the worldand upcoming events!This month we have...... been to the Afternoon Tea Week Launch and Awards Event``````For the launch of this year’s Afternoon Tea Week, which will beheld from 8th–14th August, and to discover the winners of the firstinaugural Afternoon Tea Awards, we were invited to GrosvenorHouse Hotel by AfternoonTea.co.uk. The Champagne and afternoontea reception was a brilliant event with over 30 of London’s finesthotels and restaurants in attendance, eager to hear the results of theprestigious awards. With so many exceptional afternoon tea creatorsin the room, Grosvenor House Hotel did an amazing job of servingup exquisite finger sandwiches and delicious desserts to all of theguests. A display of the afternoon tea in pretty bird houses, woodencrates and flower pots gave it a garden theme and definitely kept thefood at the centre of everyone’s attention!``````Martha Collison, the youngest ever Great British Bake Off contestantfrom the 2014 series, was there to present the Afternoon TeaAwards 2016 with Managing Director of AfternoonTea.co.uk, KeithNewton. We also spotted Cherish Finden, Executive Pastry Chef atthe Langham London and Crème de la Crème judge, who was lookingvery glamorous! With so many amazing Afternoon Teas on offer,it must have been a tough job for the panel to decide the winners.Best Traditional Afternoon Tea was awarded to Claridge’s, BestContemporary Afternoon Tea went to The Mandarin Oriental, BestThemed Afternoon Tea to Sanderson London and finally, Best FamilyFriendly Afternoon Tea went to Grosvenor House Hotel. Fourteenadditional hotels and restaurants, including The Langham, Fortnum& Mason and The Dorchester were highly commended, whilst 11were commended.``````... seen a cupcake version of Big Ben!``````Donna Air created a six-foot Big Ben made from 240 cupcakes tocelebrate Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day, in association withwoman&home. Donna called on everyone to join her in celebratingthe day, which is dedicated to raising funds to defeat dementia withthe small but mighty cupcake.``````The first ever UK Cupcake Day was launched on 16th June asnumbers of people with dementia are set to rise to over 1 millionby 2021. Everyone was encouraged to bake, sell or buy cupcakesat events up and down the country to help raise money to beatdementia. Every cupcake sold will help Alzheimer’s Society find acure, fund vital services and campaign for the rights of people withdementia.``````Donna Air, model, actress and Alzheimer’s Society supporter, said:“Until recently, my amazing grandpa, Joe, was one of the 850,people living with dementia in the UK.
