80Step 1.Start by placing the plastic stencil with a letter patternon top of the iced cookie. Make sure that it doesn’tmove and spray on top of your stencil.Step 2.Then, gently remove the stencil from your cookie andleave it to dry for a bit.Step 3.Using the sponge daubers, ink the rubber stamps withblack and green food colouring mixed with vodka andgently press them straight down on the iced cookie.Step 4.Now, using an image or picture as a visual reference, draw two butterflies with a non-toxic pencil or anedible marker.Step 5.Once your butterflies have been traced on the icedcookie, pipe their outlined areas with white royal icing(medium consistency) by slowly pressing out the icingto build up some volume. This is called dimensionalpiping. Let the royal icing butterflies dry completely(about 8 hours at room temperature or an hour in adehydrator).Steps 6a-e.Place the matte dusting powders and gel colours in thepaint palette and mix them with a few drops of vodka(or other alcohol-based medium). Make sure they havea paste-like consistency: not too dry, not too wet. Handpaint the butterflies with the small round paintbrush. In order to create different shades, shadows andhighlights, you can use a butterfly picture as a colourguide.Dip the whole brush into the lightest colour, dab off anyexcess on a piece of paper towel and start the basecoatof the butterfly with it. Apply a layer of shadows withthe blue edible ink pen. Dip the brush in vodka againand blend these shadowed areas with the lightestcolour used before. Finally, colour the black parts of the wings and addsome white and burgundy highlights to them as well.6b 6c(^5) 6a3 41 26d 6e
