Step 1.Bake 3 x 6” round sponges and 3 x 4” round sponges,stacking with a good amount of buttercream betweeneach layer. Spread buttercream all the way around theedge to give a good crumb coat to both cakes and placein the fridge. Once set, roll out the white sugarpasteand cover both cakes. Smooth down the sides withyour palms and trim off the excess with a pizza cutter.Smooth using Bellissimo flexi smoothers to create aflawless finish and a straight edge.Step 2.To cover the drum, roll out the yellow sugarpaste, paintthe drum with edible glue and lay the sugarpaste ontop. Cut away any excess with a palette knife and gentlysmooth over the top with a smoother while the pasteis still soft.Step 3.Mix some red and yellow food colour paint and waterit down. Paint a wash of orange watercolour over thewhole drum with a no. 10 paintbrush and allow to dry.Step 4.Sprinkle half a teaspoon of black food dust onto a paintpalette and add a little vodka to create a paste. Startpainting thin black lines in different directions across thewhole of the board to give a stained glass effect, thenallow to dry.Step 5.Mix a drop of blue edible paint with six drops of whitein the paint palette and water it down with a no.10 paintbrush. Water wash both tiers for an almosttransparent blue tone and allow to dry. If the colour istoo dark, wash over the top with more water and thiswill dilute the colour.Attach the bottom tier to the drum with some royalicing. Insert three dowels into the centre of the cake in atriangular form and trim off the excess. Use a little royalicing over the dowels, position the top tier in the centreof the bottom tier and allow to set.Steps 6a & b.Take a no. 2 paintbrush and paint on flower shapes bydabbing the paintbrush with the orange paint (madefrom the yellow and red paint made earlier).Step 7.Paint a few small dots of paint into the centre of theflower for detail. Add more flowers on either side of thecake on both tiers.Step 8.Mix a little green and white paint and begin to paintstrands of grass with a no. 1 paintbrush, from the baseof the bottom tier upwards. To join the flowers on bothtiers, keep layering the grass strands. Set aside to dry.Steps 9a & b.Take a piece of card and fold into quarters to make amould for the butterflies to sit in. Roll out the yellowflower paste thinly and cut out two small and one largebutterfly using the butterfly cookie cutters.Step 10.Lay them into the cardboard mould so the centre of thebutterflies sit in the fold and allow them to set hard.6b 75 6a3 41 29b 108 9a
