INSTALLING THE RETENTION BRACKET for the be
quiet! Pure Rock 2 couldn’t be easier: Simply remove
the two plastic brackets that come as standard with
the motherboard, place the be quiet! stand-offs over
them, align the two AMD mounting brackets in the
correct orientation, and then secure them down with the
included screws.
One of the big advantages with AMD’s Ryzen platform
in general is that you don’t need any proprietary
backplates with your cooling solution, as most
cooling manufacturers have adapted their mounting
mechanisms to work with the bracket that comes as
standard with the motherboard itself.

ONCE THE MOUNTING BRACKETS are in place for the
Pure Rock 2 Black, it’s time to crank it up a notch and
install the CPU into its socket. For any Ryzen processor,
simply lift up the retention arm in the socket. Note the
gold triangle on the corner of the CPU and the triangle
cutout in the socket, carefully place the processor into
position, making sure that the pins fit into the slot, then
lower the retention arm back into place. This will lock the
Ryzen CPU into position, and we’re good to go.

NOW THAT’S OUT OF THE WAY it’s time to install the
CPU tower. The Pure Rock 2 has a fantastically simple
mechanism to install it onto the bracket we added
earlier. Simply place a dot of thermal paste down onto
the CPU, then carefully place the heatsink down onto
the chip, with the small metal bracket, slotted over the
top of the contact block of the cooler. Once it’s nice and
snug on the contact plate, use the two included screws to
tighten the tower down onto the bracket. Make sure you
tighten them a little bit at a time on either side, so that
you don’t over-tighten one and put unwanted pressure
on one side of the CPU. Now that’s done, we can get the
whole unit into the case itself.

WE’RE FINALLY STARTING to see this build come
together. Installing the motherboard here is simple.
Just line up the integrated rear I/O plate with the back
of the chassis, place the motherboard down into position
over the required stand-offs, and screw it into place with
the screws found in the case accessories box that was
included in the hard-drive caddy.
You’re looking for a hexagonal screw head to use here,
although you’ll know if you use the wrong screw as it
won’t secure and will fall out. In a pinch, and if you know
your system’s not going to be moving about very often,
you can just secure the four corners and a middle point.
Don’t worry about securing every single stand-off—if
you can’t reach one it’s not the end of the world.
