to over-expose by
+2-stops to expose
for our model’s
skin tones.
When to use Manual mode
B y t a k i n g t h e s te p u p to
M a n u a l m o d e , yo u’ l l b e a b l e to s et
both the aperture and shutter
speed to get the results you want,
rather than letting your camera
dictate what it thinks should be
bright and dark in the shot.
This is especially important
when photographing darker
subjects against brighter skies, or
brighter subjects against darker
skies. You also need to make the
m o s t of M a n u a l m o d e i f yo u’re
using flash or studio lights, and
when you’re taking long exposures,
s u c h a s i n l ow-l i g h t o r a t n i g h t. T h i s
will make sure that you are in
complete control of your camera’s
(a n d yo u r ow n) o u t p u t.
