lines near the edge of the frame
and the precise geometry of the
square’s architecture was faithfully
recorded in frame.
The prime time for capture was

minutes. As we went in search of
coffee and croissant I replayed the
shoot in my mind. I thought it had
worked, but I wouldn’t really know
until I started messing about with
layers in Photoshop.
In the end I only needed four of
the bracketed frames. Manually
merging took a while and the
hardest part was getting the join
between the sky and the buildings
WRORRNQDWXUDO/RWVRIÀQHWXQLQJ
of the layer masks with the brush
tool did the trick. In the end I was
pleased. It’s a good example of how
a shot can come together from
conception to execution if all the
steps are thought through in

a multi-exposure technique to deal
with extreme contrast. But you
may care to differ.
