04 PAPER FINISHES
Try to choose a finish that will complement
your images. Glossy papers are often
favoured for printing vibrant photos, while
black and white images can work well on
mattes. Semi-gloss finishes are also
available and replicate vibrant colours well,
without the intense sheen of glossy paper.
05 USE ICC PROFILES
For more consistent colours and tones
you’ll want to install an ICC profile for each
printer and paper combo you use. While
generic profiles exist, some manufacturers
(like Fotospeed) also offer bespoke ICC
profiles with paper purchases, free of
charge (bit.ly/2KAC5Fg).
06 SOFT PROOFING
Once you’ve downloaded an ICC profile for
your printer/paper combination, you can
preview what your image will look like when
printed. This is called soft proofing and can
be performed in Adobe CC. It’s important
as it allows you to tweak the preview and
get it as close to the original as possible.
Use your printer on
a regular basis to
keep the print heads
lubricated to reduce
the risk of them
becoming dried out
and causing a clog
