The macro world is amazing.
Looking for bugs and small
subjects is a huge part of macro
photography, and for me it’s
actually the most fun aspect. The
benefits of being immersed in
nature can’t be understated. Head
to your local woods, fields, or
even your garden – paying close
attention to the small things will
bring a new sense of wonder.
Photography for me is always a
bonus and is secondary to the
experiences that nature provides.

Exploring nature has a
lot of positive effects

My flash bracket is
from the 1960s, and
I added a mini ball
head for flexibility with
lighting options, plus
a weatherproof sync
cable to fire my flash.

An inexpensive 30cm softbox
provides nice, soft lighting, which is
very important for shiny bugs with
reflective shells and exoskeletons.
